BELIEF IN GOD INHERENTLY MAKES YOU A POTENTIAL AND ACTIVE HYPOCRITE

Parents and schools and society tend to have unrealistic expectations of you particularly when they are religious. So you end up being forced to pretend and end up hating anybody who has the same sins as you in case his exposure leads to yours.  Logically and as shown by evidence there is a huge pile of hypocrisy about.

God is absolute love and perfection.  And justice.  Inevitably, God leads to unrealistic expectations for as Keller writes, “Sin is not simply doing bad things, it is putting good things in the place of God.” Who really gives God top place in all things all the time? All actions are potentially sins and most actions actually are!  Worse actual sins carry a potential to be even bigger sins or worse.  Jesus said nobody was good but God alone so Keller is just preaching Christianity.

Telling a hypocrite apart from a person who struggles with ideals is impossible.  And hypocrites take advantage of that.  You end up forced to act like a noble person when you are lumbered with ideals and principles and rules that you know you cannot live up to or will not live up to not matter how much you intend to keep them.  You tell yourself that all people are the same and you have to play this role for at least it shows others what is right.  Thus you rationalise your hypocrisy and thus many others will rationalise yours too.

Belief in God then leads to all people developing a condition of learned helplessness which will gradually get worse and worse. Worse, if you are in that condition you think of others as being relatively as useless as yourself. It is a sin to try and be good without asking God to help you. It is a sin to think your goodness is your doing only.  That is a recipe for learned helplessness. Your attempt to be better is not only impossible but stupid and not only stupid but a sin.  Your defeatism will spread.  People absorb it.

With faith in God, you have faith at the cost of faith in yourself.  You decide what good is without God and then if you get a picture of God that matches it.  So faith in God lies that you have this moral God who exercises moral authority over you.  You lie that this mental creation and perception of yours has authority when in fact it is you deciding what the authority will be not it and you invest it with it.  It is a clear case of psychological projection.  It's a clear case of hypocrisy and impostor syndrome where the God in fact is yourself trying to be God over God.  Many hypocrites publicly or secretly have a view of God that justifies their sins.  All hypocrites start off with the authority life and many add new lies and sins to the list.  It gets worse for if lies to others lead to more lies lying to yourself leads to lies that run away with themselves in record time.

Most people are too scared, conditioned, lazy or unconfident to think deeply and carefully which is why virtue can be so superficial and fragile.  That is why there is no such thing as benign hypocrisy.  It is too powerful and insidious to be anything but a filthy parasite. The world is rife with political parties that would have fizzled out decades ago had there been no gullible religionist actors around to manipulate be manipulated and vote.

Though religion says you must not sin on the basis that forgiveness from God is easy, the fact remains that most of us will follow our feeling that we should sin as we can get out of it easily and magically. It is not about logic.  Religion commands forgiving.  But forgiving for religionists assumes that God will use the forgiving to make sure the best possible outcome will be birthed.  Religious forgiveness is dangerous if God is not acting or does not exist.  A bad person and a bad act lead to bad consequences and the danger that the victim ends up bitter is a drop in the ocean when the whole picture is looked at.  Atheist forgiveness is well aware of the dangers and is about avoiding being eaten up by hate and spite more than anything else.  It is more cautious for there is no God to tweak things for the better.

The Church says that you must treat God and the other person as another you. That is key to all being united in love. Doing good for its own sake is a sin for you are to do it for God as if God was you. So the intention is selfish. You are putting yourself in God mode and treating yourself as God.  That you are not God is not the point.  The point is that you intend as if you are.  Another downside of all this love is that once you see your neighbour or God as another you you are trying to become personally outraged and feel violated if they are maligned or hurt in some way.

Hypocrisy is never benign and faith in God is its biggest catalyst.
