THAT LEVITICUS DOES NOT CONDEMN MODERN LGBT SEXUAL RELATIONSHIPS IS A LIE

Jesus said he advocated love your neighbour as it was in the law of God - the law is clear that this law does not exclude killing adulterers or homosexuals. He was not taking the command out of context. He said he was using the commandment as the law gave it. The command comes from Leviticus the most murderous book God ever allegedly wrote.

Here is chapter 18. NRSV.

The Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

2 Speak to the people of Israel and say to them: I am the Lord your God.

3 You shall not do as they do in the land of Egypt, where you lived, and you shall not do as they do in the land of Canaan, to which I am bringing you. You shall not follow their statutes.

4 My ordinances you shall observe and my statutes you shall keep, following them: I am the Lord your God.

5 You shall keep my statutes and my ordinances; by doing so one shall live: I am the Lord.

6 None of you shall approach anyone near of kin to uncover nakedness: I am the Lord.

7 You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father, which is the nakedness of your mother; she is your mother, you shall not uncover her nakedness.

8 You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s wife; it is the nakedness of your father.

9 You shall not uncover the nakedness of your sister, your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, whether born at home or born abroad.

10 You shall not uncover the nakedness of your son’s daughter or of your daughter’s daughter, for their nakedness is your own nakedness.

11 You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s wife’s daughter, begotten by your father, since she is your sister.

12 You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s sister; she is your father’s flesh.

13 You shall not uncover the nakedness of your mother’s sister, for she is your mother’s flesh.

14 You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s brother, that is, you shall not approach his wife; she is your aunt.

15 You shall not uncover the nakedness of your daughter-in-law: she is your son’s wife; you shall not uncover her nakedness. 1

6 You shall not uncover the nakedness of your brother’s wife; it is your brother’s nakedness.

17 You shall not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, and you shall not take[a] her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter to uncover her nakedness; they are your[b] flesh; it is depravity.

18 And you shall not take[c] a woman as a rival to her sister, uncovering her nakedness while her sister is still alive.

19 You shall not approach a woman to uncover her nakedness while she is in her menstrual uncleanness.

20 You shall not have sexual relations with your kinsman’s wife, and defile yourself with her.

21 You shall not give any of your offspring to sacrifice them[d] to Molech, and so profane the name of your God: I am the Lord.

22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.

23 You shall not have sexual relations with any animal and defile yourself with it, nor shall any woman give herself to an animal to have sexual relations with it: it is perversion.

24 Do not defile yourselves in any of these ways, for by all these practices the nations I am casting out before you have defiled themselves.

25 Thus the land became defiled; and I punished it for its iniquity, and the land vomited out its inhabitants.

26 But you shall keep my statutes and my ordinances and commit none of these abominations, either the citizen or the alien who resides among you

27 (for the inhabitants of the land, who were before you, committed all of these abominations, and the land became defiled);

28 otherwise the land will vomit you out for defiling it, as it vomited out the nation that was before you.

29 For whoever commits any of these abominations shall be cut off from their people.

30 So keep my charge not to commit any of these abominations that were done before you, and not to defile yourselves by them: I am the Lord your God.

NOTE: Leviticus 18:24,25 after condemning sex with man and man and sex with animals simply says that the other nations should not be doing those things either so Israel must avoid those sins.  It was not a restricted law but meant for all people everywhere.  It was admitting gay sex can happen in any culture but must not.  The text is not saying that they are banned just because other nations do them.  It is saying that they are banned and points out that other nations do them.

Leviticus 20 says

10 “‘If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife—with the wife of his neighbor—both the adulterer and the adulteress are to be put to death.

11 “‘If a man has sexual relations with his father’s wife, he has dishonored his father. Both the man and the woman are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.

12 “‘If a man has sexual relations with his daughter-in-law, both of them are to be put to death. What they have done is a perversion; their blood will be on their own heads.

13 “‘If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.

14 “‘If a man marries both a woman and her mother, it is wicked. Both he and they must be burned in the fire, so that no wickedness will be among you.

15 “‘If a man has sexual relations with an animal, he is to be put to death, and you must kill the animal.

16 “‘If a woman approaches an animal to have sexual relations with it, kill both the woman and the animal. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.

Leviticus 20:15,16 says God wants an animal that is raped by a man or woman put to death along with the rapist. It goes as far as to say, “their blood is upon them”. This meant stoning to death. That is the kind of book Jesus said was God's unerring word and that if anybody got around its rules they would suffer for it in Matthew 5.  Now distorters want to make out the man and man ban is based on rape.  It does not mention rape but simply says that man having sex with man is wrong.  The lines around it are not about rape.  They say the text is man and boy so do they want us to believe that if a boy is raped he should be put to death like a raped animal?

When the Leviticus text was written, the author or God if you like, had to be careful about clarity as there was no punctuation in those days. The text means what it says. If you got a text message saying MAN WITH MAN SEX IS WRONG STONE THEM TO DEATH it could not be any clearer. There are no ifs or buts or saying its complicated to interpret. Just because something is in the Bible does not mean it can’t be simple. Wanting it to be complicated is wanting to get around it or dream up loopholes.  Remember too that man in those days could include a teenager for you were considered an adult much earlier then.  Girls were wed for breeding when they were barely ready to have a baby.  Notice too that with chapter 20 its a list of things most of us consider immoral.  If you get a loophole for the gay ban then get one for the others too!
