Biblically, Can Catholics Be Saved?

The Churches would engage in public debates in every parish to work out the true doctrine of salvation if they cared for truth. Catholicism has no excuse for religious error and for spreading it if it is a man-made religion.

The Bible warns of antichrists who disguise themselves as angels of light. An antichrist can't admit what he is. It is up to you to discern and see through him or her. If they teach the truth about Jesus and bury that truth under doctrines and devotions and practices that obscure and contradict and oppose it they are only only doing what antichrists do. A person who does not know the truth cannot be an antichrist but merely an ignoramus.

The Catholics deny that human nature is a sin nature or that humans are sinful by nature which means the Bible teaching that they are sinful by nature is being rejected and Catholicism cannot be considered a genuine Christian Church. Those who do not see that they are sinners by nature cannot be saved. They cannot be saved for they cannot bond with God for he is pure goodness. This is the clear Bible teaching. It would mean that the Catholic Church invoking the presence of the saints is invoking demons for the saints seen sin in terms of actions and not in what it makes a person to be.

The Epistle of the Hebrews is accepted by real Christianity and Catholicism as the word of God and scripture.

Hebrews 11:2 says that faith alone can guarantee the blessings we hope for or give evidence for the existence of realities in the invisible world.

This means belief and not belief and repentance together as the word faith usually means to Christians. The following verses tell us that. For example, they say that it was by faith that Abraham obeyed God. If faith did not mean mere belief but also avoidance of sin this revelation would make no sense. You don’t say it was by obedience to God that Abraham obeyed.

If Catholics have the wrong version of Christianity they will not be saved.

The epistle states that it is impossible to make apostate Christians repent if they have really understood the faith and its goodness.

Read the context carefully:  Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And God permitting, we will do so.

So he is addressing people who know enough but need to know more.  Those who have been through the elementary stage are included as those who have got the Holy Spirit.  They will not be saved if they go into apostasy.  The reference to growth means they are at an early stage and they need to grow.

He goes, It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned.

The Amplified Bible puts it like this:

“It is impossible [to restore and bring again to repentance] those who have been once for all enlightened, who have consciously tasted the heavenly gift and have become sharers of the Holy Spirit, And have felt how good the Word of God is and the mighty powers of the age and world to come, If they then deviate from the faith and turn away from their allegiance – [it is impossible] to bring them back to repentance, for (because, while, as long as) they nail upon the cross the Son of God afresh [as far as they are concerned] and are holding [Him] up to contempt and public disgrace” (Hebrews 6:4-6).

The Amplified Bible’s note “because, while, as long as” is incorrect. You don’t say it is not impossible to bring blasphemers back as long as they blaspheme and blasphemers can change so the verse means something that is impossible to stop doing.

Some say a Christian is means a person who is saved once for all by Jesus and whose Heaven is guaranteed.

Christians who say that once you are saved you are always saved say that the text does not refer to saved people losing their salvation but to those who draw near to being saved but then draw back. This seems to be an erroneous interpretation for all Christians have resisted prior to conversion and up to the point where they decide to convert. The text complains that you cannot make the people it condemns repent meaning that it is plain to be seen that they are so godless that it is a waste of time inviting them to repent. So the text could mean people who draw near and make their opposition to Jesus obvious and hold him up to public shame. They have committed an unpardonable sin.

They could be people who don’t have the kind of faith that God gives, supernaturally caused faith. It is possible to be a believe in Christianity on the human level without letting God give you the gift of faith. Faith is seen in the Bible as union with God and belief is a part of it. It is the work of God.

The favoured interpretation is that true Christians who repudiate their supernatural faith and apostatise lose their salvation and will never be saved. Repentance depends on the grace of God. God has made their repentance impossible for he will not help them to repent. Any repentance they have is just human repentance or artificial where God is concerned and so it is not acceptable to God who says that repentance that pardons is supernatural and bestowed by grace.

Protestants hold that the Catholic Church teaches all the basic truths of Christianity but denies salvation by faith alone. They hold that the Roman Church obscures those truths and has doctrines that undermine and oppose them. The Catholic Church then converts people to see that Christianity is true and then sets about corrupting them so that they form religious habits defiant of God. For example, the most outrageous hypocrisy of Catholicism is in its doctrine that you must regard sin as punishable and therefore hate it but you must love the sinner. Punish the sin not the sinner. But you cannot punish a sin ever. It Is impossible. What you do when you say you punish a sin is that you punish the sinner. Jesus stated that the Jewish leaders were hypocrites and asked the rhetorical question "How can you escape the damnation of Hell?" - Matthew 23. Even the Jews were not hypocritical enough to pretend that the sinner had nothing to do with the sin. The next step is surely the sinner feeling they can sin all they want for sin is not a part of them but separate from them.

Catholicism then would come under the condemnation of Hebrews. Catholicism for example teaches officially that you cannot earn salvation but works through the liturgy and the catechism to get those who accept the doctrine to reject it sometimes without them noticing. If we cannot earn salvation it must be a gift. It would be insane to pray to a saint to ask him to ask God to give the gift. God would be insulted if you couldn't simply ask him without trying to get a saint to influence him to grant it. Love the sinner and hate the sin is unbiblical hypocrisy. If you know a sinner feels hurt when his sin is condemned, that will not stop you condemning it. You are trying to hurt the sinner and the sin. Catholic love is based on delusion.

Protestants know, not believe, that when Paul said that no one could be saved - made ready for an everlasting relationship with God in Heaven - by law-keeping (Galatians 3:11) he meant that there could be no salvation for anyone who thinks that they must obey God to stay saved.  Even if they say the grace of God helps them that makes no difference.  The Jews thought the same thing and we are told their works did not put them right with God.  Catholics cannot be saved for they believe what the Jews did. The Catholic must leave the Church to be saved.

He did not mean those who thought that they had to earn salvation by obedience for the Law itself forbade that notion and made provisions for forgiveness so that the sinner could start again as a friend of God. The Law promised to make a person right with God only as long as they sought his forgiveness. The damnation of Catholics who have always been loyal to the Vatican and even fake Protestants who make obedience a condition for retaining salvation is certain if the Bible is true and Protestants must snatch them back from the fire.

The Bible sees getting saved as being forgiven for your sins and your future ones before they even happen so faith and repentance the once is enough. Catholics deny this saying that if you sin in the future you must repent afresh afterwards. Catholics don’t have biblical salvation. Paul said this is no use for you sin again as soon as you get forgiveness (Romans 3) so God will not accept repentance for the past alone. Rome says that only fools would think that repenting for sins they haven’t done yet is any good. But it stands to reason. You know you will sin a lot in the future so you can renounce them now and sincerely wish that they won’t happen for the love of God. God is a forgiving God and will respond to this repentance to forgive your future sins. Future sins will be forgiven instantly without repentance for the repentance you carried out years before will suffice.

When he forgives forgotten sins he can forgive sins that haven’t happened yet.

This is what Paul would say to Catholics,

You must forsake the Roman Catholic Church because she is not a Christian Church. If you believe you shouldn’t abandon it, you are guilty of abandoning the faith taught by Christ and which was transmitted to myself and the other apostles. You are becoming an apostate and may be beyond sincere repentance. To go to Heaven you must leave the Roman Church. The basic doctrines of the faith such as that Jesus is God and died and rose for our sins mean nothing if the Church teaches the wrong response to them. The doctrine that Jesus chooses us for salvation and gives us faith as an indication that we are saved and will go to Heaven is denied by the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church might say, it is not against the doctrine but merely for its own position that faith and good works and sacraments are necessary. This is hypocrisy for if X and Y do not agree, then to say X is true is automatically to oppose Y. Teaching much of the truth but ignoring the main truth means that the Catholic Church is not helping anybody by teaching the truth. The doctrine of justification and guaranteed salvation by faith alone is the foundation stone of true Christianity. Protestants cannot regard the Catholic system as Christian. To honour it is a betrayal of the gospel and God.

Getting saved involves holding that Jesus is our Lord and substitute and repentance for all sin, past and future. The repentance is invalid if it includes only past sins for since you are taking once for all salvation you have to repent the future ones as well. The Jews repented all their past sins and availed of the promise of forgiveness in the Law and Paul said that they still weren’t right with God for they sinned again as soon as they got forgiveness (Romans 3) so God will not accept repentance for the past alone. Remember that there is no salvation for one that does not believe in once for all justification by faith alone which does you forever for you cannot get rid of sins without intending to. That is why Protestants must present the gospel to Catholics if they love them. Most preachers seem to forget that repentance for the sake of the past is not enough. I hope that this lecture will help make improvements in its own small way.

I wrote that nobody is totally free from sin and sin must be punished by God and that there is no condemnation for those that are in Christ Jesus. They get away with their sins for Jesus paid for them despite still having them.

Rome says that only fools would think that repenting for sins they haven’t done yet is any good. But it stands to reason. You know you will sin a lot in the future so you can renounce them now and sincerely wish that they won’t happen for the love of God and you are sorry that you will do them. God is a forgiving God and will respond to this repentance to forgive your future sins even if you will die impenitent afterwards. When he will forgive forgotten sins he can forgive sins that have not taken place yet.

The Catholics must ask Jesus to forgive all their sins, the ones that are past and the ones still to come and trust in his substitutionary atonement to possess everlasting life with God in Heaven. But this means denying their religion which puts them outside the Church.
