POPE RATZINGER AND HIS CALLOUSNESS TOWARDS CLERICAL ABUSE VICTIMS

The Vatican in 2001 sent a letter of congratulations with the approval of the pope and Cardinal Raztinger and several senior cardinals to the bishop of Bayeux for his refusing to turn in a child molesting priest over to the law and furthermore for letting him continue to work in a parish despite admitting he engaged in child sex abuse. A copy of this letter was sent to all bishops to encourage them to emulate the evil example of the bishop. Cardinal Hojos declared in 2010 that he consulted the pope and obtained papal authorisation for doing this. It specifically praised the bishop as a good father for not handing his 'son' the priest over to the authorities though the 'son' admitted to him he was abusing children. The priest had admitted his crimes to the bishop in private conversation. Canon 1395 orders that a cleric who lives with his girlfriend may have to be defrocked. Those who abuse children are given non-punishments.
